My Journey

Olá, I’m Adriana.

I was born and raised in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It’s where my story begins—shaped by both calm waters and turbulent tides, much like the ones I help my clients navigate today. It’s also where my family of origin and lifelong friends remain close to my heart. It’s where I first fell in love with human stories and began imagining myself as a psychiatrist, listening to imaginary clients and offering support. Even as a child, I was often the confidant among friends—and I cherished being that attentive, compassionate ear.

Academic Path

My curiosity about people and their inner worlds led me to formal studies in psychology, earning a Bachelor’s degree in 2000 and a Master’s in Clinical Research in Psychoanalysis in 2007.

Profissional Path

Since then, I’ve worked mainly in the non-profit sector, supporting individuals and families through complex challenges. My clinical experience includes providing therapy for children affected by abuse and neglect, caregivers, and perpetrators, as
well as work in foster care, hospitals, and private practice. In addition to therapy, I’ve contributed to social services, advocating for children’s rights and helping shape policies that strengthen families and communities.

New Chapter: Canada

In 2010, life brought me to Canada—a move inspired by love and followed by growth in every sense. I continued my international work in children’s rights and, in Ottawa, supported international social services for over a decade.

Returning to Psychotherapy

In 2021, I felt a deep pull to return to my original
calling: psychotherapy. I followed that call with renewed passion, completing a mental health bridging program and all requirements to practice in Ontario.

Profissional Path in Ontario

In 2022, I became a member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals, and in 2023, I earned my registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

Therapeutic Stance

My personal journey—facing social oppression, being a woman, an immigrant, and working within social services—deeply informs my perspective as a therapist. It fuels my commitment to creating an inclusive, safe, and supportive space where every client feels seen, heard, and
empowered.

Rediscovering myself as a Therapist

In addition to formal training, I’ve pursued ongoing professional development to reconnect with myself as a therapist and better support my clients. Encountering somatic-based approaches and EMDR—both as a clinician and a client—was a turning point that taught me that “knowing” is not enough for deep healing. I have completed basic EMDR training, a three-year Somatic Experiencing program, and several specialized workshops, including trauma and narrative therapy. Personal therapy, continuous education, and regular supervision remain essential parts of my practice.

Beyond the therapy room

I’m a proud mom and pet parent in an intercultural family. I love quiet mornings and loud laughs, weekend movie nights, and gatherings with friends. I find joy in nature, reading, music, discovering new places and food, being near water in any form, and sunny days.
